The 5 Love Languages – Gary Chapman
A book that makes everybody think a lot on relationships. It’s Gary Chapman’s The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts. It’s simply amazing how things we believe we know and do so well can light situations in a totally different perspective. The book is said to be dedicated to the married couples, but it applies as well to those implied in a long-term relationship.
As we all know the phase of being in love, the butterflies in the stomach pass after a certain amount of time – some psychologists say it lasts for 2 years, others claim it would be 3. What comes afterwards? Two different worlds who woke up together have to deal day-to-day life and all the ups and downs.

Gary’s book explains very well why a lot of marriages end up in a divorce. Many couples say the main reason is the lack of communication, but when asked, they don’t know how to describe it. The key of a marriage is in the actions taken after the lovely birds settle in their nest. Gary understood exactly how things are going and he dots the i’s and crosses the t’s. He excellently compares love to a language. Precisely, he states that this beautiful feeling called love would have five languages, and each of these have dialects. The languages Mr. Chapman speaks of are: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch.
Each of us develops a main love language ever since childhood. For example one can enjoy most receiving hugs, while he/she doesn’t care if the partner vacuums for them. So it’s important that we express our love in the love language our partner’s speaking.
A thing I liked a lot was the “love tank”. It concerns our emotional state and how full of love we are. A full love tank provides us full freedom and maximum productivity in our life.
The best communication is based on learning each other’s love language. There are cases when a person can be bi-lingual, meaning, two love languages have the same importance for them. It’s not easy to learn a language you don’t speak, but when it’s about love, nothing is impossible. The sky’s the limit.
